India plans to build Asia's first tidal energy power plant

Indian state of Gujarat on January 19, 2011 announced that it is planning to build Asia's first commercial scale tidal power stations. UK marine energy developer Atlantis (Atlantis) Resources and Gujarat Power Corporation and the Gujarat government signed the construction of the west coast of India 50MW tidal power farm memorandum of understanding. Construction works will begin in early 2012.

the facility can be expected to expand to more than 200MW.

France LaRance is the world's largest tidal power plant operations, power generation 240MW.

Gujarat has an important resource for coastal waters, the use of tidal energy has enormous opportunities for development. The project will be India and Asia's first commercial scale tidal energy use of facilities, will be brought to the region an important economic and environmental benefits.

Cornelius, Atlantis chief executive Tim (TimCornelius) that represents a huge potential tidal energy, the unknown source of power. As of January 2011 can take advantage of the global set tidal volume of about 2GW.

tidal power as the sea, as wind turbines, the turbine rotor to rotate slowly, on the marine flora and fauna of the environmental impact is very small.

current estimates indicate that tidal power source is expected to meet world demand for electricity 15%, India needs about 5%. With more coastline research results, these figures also are expected to grow substantially.

2010   10 months, Atlantis company as part of the consortium, development of tidal energy in Scotland and the north wind farms, is expected to become the world's largest tidal power generation field, up to 378MW.
